Both give you more hair. They just ask very different things of you.
Clip-ins and tape-ins are the two extension types most women consider first, especially if they don't want a long salon appointment. Here's an honest comparison so you can choose the one that suits your hair and your life. (Yes, we sell tape-ins. We'll still be fair.)
The quick version
- Clip-ins are for occasional wear. You put them in when you want them and take them out at night.
- Tape-ins are for wearing day and night for a few weeks at a time, then removing, retaping and reinstalling.
How they attach
Clip-ins have small pressure clips sewn onto each weft. You snap them onto your own hair near the root, and unclip them when you're done.
Tape-ins are flat wefts with tape along the top. They stick to a thin section of your hair close to the root and stay put until you remove them with a remover. With Honeymoon Hair, the tape is double-sided, so you use one weft per section instead of sandwiching two together.
How they feel and look
Clip-ins have clips and usually a wider band at the top, so they can feel bulkier and are easier to spot in fine or thin hair, or when your hair is up.
Tape-ins lie flat against the head. That's a big part of why people choose them: they tend to blend more discreetly, especially in finer hair.
Your daily routine
Clip-ins: a few minutes to put in every time you wear them, and they come out before bed. Great if you only want extra hair for weekends or events.
Tape-ins: once they're in, there's nothing to do each morning. You sleep, shower and style with them in, following a gentle care routine. Every 3 to 4 weeks, you remove them, retape and reinstall.
Doing it yourself
Clip-ins are the easier first step. There's nothing to stick and nothing to remove.
Tape-ins take more care to install, but they're very doable at home with the right kit. Honeymoon's wefts come pre-cut for specific placements, the kit includes a parting comb, clips, remover and extra tape, and a printed guide and video lessons walk you through each step. Once you're familiar with it, an install takes about 20 minutes.
Upkeep
Clip-ins need washing and storing between wears.
Tape-ins need fresh tape every 3 to 4 weeks and a remover to take them out gently. Both come in your Honeymoon kit, and refills are available when you run low. With proper care, Honeymoon hair can be reused for up to a year.
Which one should you choose?
Choose clip-ins if:
- You want extra length or volume now and then, not every day.
- You don't mind a few minutes of clipping each time.
- You'd rather have nothing attached overnight.
Choose tape-ins if:
- You want fuller or longer hair every day, without a morning routine.
- You want something flat and discreet, especially if your hair is fine.
- You're happy to do a quick refresh every few weeks.
